"Since the time I could hold a pencil, I had a passion for making Art. As a small child I recall studying the 'How to Draw' books my parents provided me. I had a an advanced awareness and consciousness and a vivid inner world. By high school I had developed severe and debilitating anxiety. I enrolled in any Art class I could and practiced in my spare time at home. At age 14 I began self medicating with Alcohol. I was also severely anorexic and engaging in self harm. I maintained good grades in school, I was an athlete and played on softball teams and enjoyed long distance running.
Art became a sanctuary, a place where I went to commune with an energy greater than myself. I didn't have words for the concepts I was exploring or experiencing, only a feeling I was following. Allowing Art to flow through me gave me a sense of purpose and peace. It was the only thing that made sense to me in a confusing world.
After high school, at the age of 18, I was given a tremendous gift by my Parents. I enrolled in a study abroad program and attended a 6 month Fine Arts & Italian Language Course in Florence Italy (2001). I secured a small apartment in the heart of Firenze and set off alone on one of the greatest adventure of my life. While I excelled in School, my Alcoholism continued to escalate and pulled me further into the darkness of the Underworld.
When I returned home to Vancouver, I moved around from Calgary AB to White Rock BC, to Langley and the North Shore. I did some other travelling, from a backpacking trip along the coast of South Africa (2000) to backpacking around the Coast and inland Australia (2003). In 2004 I was accepted into the IDEA Design program offered at Capilano University and withdrew before it's completion. I sought more freedom of expression and the confines of the design world did not appeal to my spirit. Finally I moved into a one bedroom apartment in Vancouver at Kingsway and Knight in 2005 where I stayed alone. During this time I worked various jobs such as managing local family run coffee shops, and doing food prep for a catering company.
I was only beginning to understand what the small voice inside me was whispering to me... beckoning me forward, speaking to me through my pain and suffering, telling me to 'Follow My heArt'...."
